As Town Historian I:

  • Keep track of the archives, adding to them and organizing them.
  • Answer inquiries about local history, early governments, family histories, house histories, Tompkins County Railroads, and help others do research on these topics.
  • Take visitors to local cemeteries to look for family graves.
  • Sometimes I give talks to local groups such as the Rotary.
  • I take care of the one-room schoolhouse and give programs and welcome visitors there.
  • I give "Walk and Talk' s" for Historic Ithaca.
  • I preside over the board meetings of the Lansing Historical Association and write their quarterly newsletter.
  • I help the Lansing Historical Association when they do exhibits.
  • I write articles for the local newspapers.
  • I try to be at the Archives Building from 10:00 till noon on Saturday mornings for anyone who comes in to do research. I spend this time studying the Archives. Usually two stalwart board members join me at this.
  • As I reply to phone calls and letters I try to be a good will ambassador for Lansing.
